Horned God
Chaos, Bringer of All Revelations
~reviewed by Eric Rasmussen

Horned God plays perfectly pedestrian death metal in the vein of every other death metal band that never learned about a neat little musical concept: dynamics. You see, Horned God's music is fast, and angry. The riffs are loud, the drumming rapid, the vocals angry and raspy and all that good stuff. However, even though the CD is a mere 32 minutes, it's so painfully repetitive that listening to it seems to take an hour. Or six.

As a reviewer, frankly, I'm running out of things to say about generi-death metal with sub par production, average-at-best performances, and a "one size fits all" sound that spans 30-60 minutes. Does anyone really enjoy this music for its full duration? I'd bet even Horned God fans just like to listen to a track or two at a time. There's no denying that any given song retains a certain measure of competency for the style, but the problem lies in "any given song" amounting to "the same song over and over."

Sometimes I luck out with these death metal reviews, in that the band has some distinguishing quality - even if it's only in their image or presentation, and not the music itself. Horned God unfortunately offer nothing at all new to the genre of 'satanic death metal that isn't terribly cheesy but takes itself way too seriously.' I feel that maybe I'm being too hard on the band, so in the interest of ending the review on a positive note, here's an unedited paragraph about Horned God from their label's website:

"Diabolical virtuoses of the new apocalypse. HORNED GOD featuring REBAELLIUN member set the rules for extreme evil death metal for the new millenium. There's so much sonic violence, inhuman fast rhythms, ear crushing solos, and pure anger displayed on the band's new album that you will basically run for cover. No compromise !."
